The October 2016 (v101n10) American Mineralogist issue is online. The Sept-Oct double print issue will be in the mails shortly. Among the articles is the invited Centennial article on temporal histories of Cordilleran continental arcs.

Access to online MSA publications, including American Mineralogist, at www.msapub.org. Select the appropriate link based on your member or institution's subscription. If your institution subscribes to GeoScienceWorld (GSW), we ask that you preferentially use the GSW link. Likewise, DeGruyter subscribers should use the DeGruyter link .

The twelve (12) issues of the 2016 American Mineralogist will publish monthly online. The print version will publish six times a year, each containing two numbers.

Award Announcements

MSA Council decided on the 2017 award recipients at its 2016 Council Meeting in Denver, CO, USA. The Roebling Medal is awarded to Edward M. Stolper of California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA; the Dana Medal to Thomas W. Sisson of the U.S. Geological Survey, Menlo Park, CA, USA; the MSA Award to Dustin Trail, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY, USA; and the Distinguished Public Service Award to David W. Mogk, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, USA. Fellows newly elected for 2017 are Jay J. Ague, Bernardo Cesare, Elizabeth Anna Cottrell, Glenn A. Gaetani, Tomoo Katsura, Yan Liang, Wendy R. Panero, James Kelley Russell, Sean R. Shieh, and Michael J. Walter.

The 2017 recipients for the research grants in mineralogy and petrology from MSA's Mineralogy/Petrology Research Fund are: Allan Lerner, University of Oregon, Eugene OR, USA for his study Developing a Volcanic Degassing Model for Mount St. Helens Volcano and Jessica Hamilton, Monash University, Melbourne VIC, Australia for her study Enhancing mineralogical trapping of CO2 within ultramafic mine tailings material. The 2017 recipient for the research grant in crystallography from the Edward H. Kraus Crystallographic Research Fund is Gabriela Aylin Farfan, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole MA, USA for Probing coral aragonite crystallography under changing ocean conditions using synchrotron-based Ca-EXAFS.
