Dear colleagues,
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our Mineralogy group at the University of Bremen, working at the intersection of machine learning and geoscience.
The project
This position, embedded within the EXCITE Network (www.excite-network.euhttp://www.excite-network.eu) and in close collaboration with MARUM, focuses on developing AI and machine learning methods to investigate fluid-rock interactions across multiple scales. The successful candidate will work with multimodal imaging data (3D microscopy, µCT, VSI, spectroscopy) and apply physics-informed machine learning (PINNs) to link experimental observations with reactive transport models. Applications include carbon storage, energy transformation, and marine geochemical cycles.
What we're looking for
- PhD in Geosciences, Materials Science, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field (candidates in the final stage of their PhD are also welcome to apply)
- Solid experience in machine learning and scientific programming (Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Julia)
- Interest in interdisciplinary research connecting AI with geoscience and marine environmental science
Details
- Start date: April 1, 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
- Duration: up to 24 months
- Salary: TV-L E13 (full-time, 39.2 h/week)
- Location: University of Bremen, Germany
Application deadline: December 18, 2025
Applications should include a cover letter with a statement of research interests, CV with publication list, and copies of degree certificates, combined in a single PDF. Please send to arinkel@uni-bremen.demailto:arinkel@uni-bremen.de, referencing position A255-25.
