Hello Clay Community,

I can’t believe we are now less than a month away from The Clay Minerals Society’s 2023 Annual Meeting (May 20-25, 2023) held in Austin, Texas. This event is hosted at the University of Texas-Austin, J.J. Pickle Research Campus.

We have an extensive program covering the six days in Austin.

Our three keynote/award lectures will bring wealth of experience and knowledge.

·        Bailey Award: Randall Cygan presenting “The Very Model of a Modern Major Mineral-Molecular Simulation and the Advancement of Clay Mineralogy”.

·        Pioneer Award: Susan Brantley presenting “Discovering the Clay Reactions beneath our Feet”.

·        Jackson Award: Christophe Tournassat presenting “Electrostatic interactions at clay mineral surfaces: At the crossroads between mineralogy, geochemistry, and geophysics”.

In addition to our exciting presentations, come and experience clays science in a hands-on fashion.

·        We have a short course covering how to use Sybilla, a newly release software package for 1D and 3D XRD pattern simulation of clays and other one-dimensional materials.

·        Our first field trip will examine clays, industrial minerals, and volcanism! in Central Texas and, then for the second trip, we will go underground to examine what happens to clays and associated minerals as they are transported into caves.

Summary - 2023 The Clay Minerals Society Annual Meeting (utexas.edu)

Looking forward to seeing you all in Austin, Texas!
