2023 Clay Minerals Society AM: Call for Abstracts

Hello Mineralogists,

You are invited to share your research with the clay community at The Clay Minerals Society’s 2023 Annual Meeting occurring May 20-25, 2023, in Austin, TX. We are now accepting abstracts for both oral and poster presentations. All clay-related topics are welcome!

Please limit abstracts to <350 words. Detailed abstract guidelines are presented on the submission page. Abstract submission will close February 6, 2023.

Tentative Sessions

1.      Critical materials and clays.

2.      Environmental applications of natural and modified clays.

3.      Porosity in shales and mudstones.

4.      Clays in carbon capture, utilization, and storage and hydrogen applications.

5.      Role of clay minerals in the events leading to the origin of life.

6.      Caves and sediments.

7.      Advancements in the application and characterization of clay minerals in petroleum industry.

8.      Current trends in research and development of bentonites for the isolation of spent nuclear fuel.

9.      Isotopes and clays.

10.  Industrial application of clays and zeolites.

11.  Engineered layered materials and their interfacial properties.


Meeting Basics

The Clay Mineral Society is an international organization devoted to the study of clays and clay minerals. CMS hosts annual meetings bringing clay scientist across a multitude of disciplines together to exchange research findings and build a collaborative atmosphere.

The Annual Meeting will be held from May 20-25, 2023, in Austin, Texas at the University of Texas-Austin, J.J. Pickle Research Campus.

Short-Course: Chlorite geology and mineralogy with core viewing.

Field Trip: Clay mineralogy and geology of caves in the Edwards Limestone.
