Dear all,
We are looking for a PhD candidate for a National Science Centre funded
project “Volatiles mobilization and redistribution during orogenesis” at
the Department of Mineralogy, Petrography and Geochemistry at AGH
University of Krakow (Kraków, Poland). The project aims to investigate
the contribution of orogenesis to the global volatile budget by studying
melt and fluid inclusions now trapped in high-grade rocks located in
different portions of the North Atlantic Caledonides. The timing at
which volatiles are redistributed and remobilized will also be
determined by dating garnets and zircons.
The project will include fieldwork in different localities of the North
Atlantic Caledonides (also in remote areas), optical microscopy,
micro-Raman spectroscopy, experimental re-homogenization of inclusions
and geochemical investigations with electron microprobe, LA-ICP-MS,
NanoSIMS, and U-Pb geochronology. We are seeking a highly motivated
candidate with good communication skills and the ability to work in a
team.
Potential candidates with a background and relevant Master’s degree in
metamorphic/igneous petrology, geochemistry, and geochronology are
warmly encouraged to apply.
Students are required to have obtained their Master’s degree by July
2025.
The start date will be 1st of October, with a duration of four years.
The candidate will receive a stipend of 5000 PLN/month plus a
scholarship from the AGH Doctoral School (see here the details:
https://sd.agh.edu.pl/en/doctoral-students/doctoral-scholarships).
The newly recruited PhD student will be supervised by Prof. Jaroslaw
Majka and Dr. Alessia Borghini, and they will become members of the
Orogen Dynamics Team (http://odt.agh.edu.pl/). In case of any questions,
please contact Alessia Borghini at borghini@agh.edu.pl.
To apply, please send an email to Alessia not later than 21st of July
with:
-a cover letter;
-a CV (including scientific background, publications/research
achievements, scholarships/awards, and participation in research
workshops, training courses, and research projects);
-copy of the Master’s diploma and abstract of the Master's thesis.
The selection process will be two-fold; thus, all interested candidates
should contact Alessia at borghini@agh.edu.pl not later than the 21st of
July.
Please pass it on to anyone who may be intrested.
Best wishes,
Alessia and Jarek
