Dear Members of the MSA network,

At Stockholm University we are seeking an Assistant Professor in Structural Geology.

Please share this call with persons who might be interested.

Many thanks,

Alasdair

Assistant Professor in Structural Geology, Stockholm University

We seek an innovative structural geologist who evaluates the deformation processes operating in the Earth's lithosphere. Candidates who would fit well with our group will take a field-based approach to understanding deformation in time and space; they will augment field observations with quantitative analysis, geochronology, laboratory experiments, remote sensing technologies, and/or analogue or numerical modelling. They will address compelling questions about deformation processes and contribute to our fundamental understanding of structural geology. The Dept of Geological Sciences supports the green energy transition and applicants who apply their structural research to understanding carbon storage, geothermal energy, or critical raw material resources are welcome.

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural geology and field-based geological mapping. They are expected to attract and secure external funding, publish in peer reviewed journals, attend professional meetings, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, engage students in research, and develop and deliver effective educational outreach.  Evidence of teaching excellence and interest in innovative teaching methods are also welcome.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in geology or a related geoscience discipline at the time of appointment - priority will begiven to applicants within five years of their degree. Candidates should possess a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience and be able to communicate their research vision.

The Department
Research activities in geology at the Department of Geological Sciences encompass igneous and metamorphic petrology, ore geology, structural geology, and tectonics. The department is equipped to prepare and analyze rock samples (XRF, LA-ICP-MS). We collaborate with the Swedish Museum of Natural History, which has a large instrument park including a scanning electron microscope (equipped with EBSD), MC-ICP-MS, and a secondary ion mass spectrometer (Cameca1280).
