Wed, Mar 18, 2020 10:58 PM

Dear Members,

At its Spring telecon last week, the MetSoc Council reviewed the number of
nominations being evaluated by each award committee and concluded that
there was a need to solicit additional nominations for 2021 for some awards
due to the low number of nominations received by the January deadline. The
MetSoc Council has unanimously approved re-opening nominations for the
Barringer Award and the Service Award with a deadline of April 25.

Barringer Award: Please consider nominating a deserving colleague for
outstanding contributions in the field of impact cratering for the 2021
Barringer Award. The nomination should include: (a) a biographical sketch
of the candidate; (b) a summary and evaluation of the accomplishments of
the candidate and the importance of his/her work; and (c) a list of
publications covering the work to be considered for the award. The
Nominator should also provide, or arrange to have provided, to the Chair,
no more than three (3) seconding letters which support the nomination and
which may provide additional information. Seconding letters may be provided
either by Members of the Society or by appropriate knowledgeable outside
scientists. Nominations should be sent to the secretary (metsocsec@gmail.com)
and the chair of the Barringer Award Committee, Michael Poelchau (
michael.poelchau@geologie.uni-freiburg.de) by April 15. A list of prior
awardees is at: https://meteoritical.org/awards/barringer-award-winners.

Service Award: Please consider nominating a deserving colleague for their
service to the field of meteoritics. The purpose of the award shall be to
honor members who have advanced the goals of the Society to promote
research and education in meteoritics and planetary science in ways other
than by conducting scientific research. Examples of activities that could
be honored by the award include, but are not limited to, education and
public outreach, service to the Society and the broader scientific
community, and acquisition, classification and curation of new samples for
research. Nominations should be sent to the chair of the Membership
Committee, Mendy Ouzillou (mendy.ouzillou@gmail.com) by April 15. A list of
prior awardees is at: https://meteoritical.org/awards/service-award-winners.

We look forward to receiving your nominations.

Thanks,
Munir.
