Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce an open call for abstracts for our upcoming session at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting in New Orleans:
Session Title: Chemistry and Physics of Earth’s Outer Core and its Boundaries
Understanding Earth’s outer core and its boundaries—the core-mantle boundary (CMB) and inner core boundary (ICB)—is essential to advancing knowledge of planetary evolution and deep Earth processes. These regions are interconnected through physical, chemical, and dynamic processes, including heat and mass transport, as well as magnetic field generation.
We invite contributions from geochemistry, cosmochemistry, mineral physics, seismology, and geodynamics to explore key questions such as:
Mantle-core exchange and coupling
*
Ultra-low velocity zones (ULVZs)
*
Metal-silicate partitioning and geochemical phase relations
*
Influence of early magma ocean processes on core formation
*
Outer core composition and stratification
*
Seismic anisotropy, inner core composition, and crystallization
We particularly encourage submissions employing theoretical modeling, first-principles simulations, high-pressure experiments, and geophysical observations to probe the inaccessible deep interior. This session aims to foster interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations to refine our understanding of the thermal and compositional state of Earth’s deep interior and the dynamic processes connecting the CMB to the ICB.
Please submit your abstracts by July 30 through the AGU submission portal or using this link below.
