Speaker - Martin Zinn III

[cid:image002.jpg@01DAC7AF.EBC08D40]

Marty is one of the very few people that was able to convert his passion - mineral collecting - into his vocation.  For 36 years (1982-2019), Martin Zinn Expositions, LLC, produced trade shows that offered USA and international mineral, fossil, meteorite, gem and jewelry dealers opportunities to sell their wares.  These trade shows were in Tucson, Denver, Springfield, Costa Mesa, Cartersville, and Cincinnati.  He still claims to have been “shanghaied” into being a show producer (in 1982 and again in 1990).

Marty was born in 1941 in Lake Charles, LA.  His family moves took him to Houston, Las Vegas, Oakland and Santa Barbara.  His family of five became a family of 10 when his mother re-married.  Marty graduated from University of Colorado - Boulder in 1964, BS in Business.  His work career included U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, advertising sales, traveling lady’s ready-to-wear sales, Emery Air Freight Corp. (sales and sales management, 1969-1981), and Evergreen Financial Planning Services (1982-86).  Marty's Army / military active duty included a visit to Vietnam (1965-6).

Marty moved to Evergreen in 1982.  The move (from Dallas, TX, where July temperatures exceed the 100 degrees daily) was a result of seeing the Evergreen temperature drop some 25 degrees during the middle of a July summer day during his summer vacation in 1981.  He has been in the same house for 42 years, while experimenting with second homes in New Mexico and Arizona.

Marty began his mineral interest in 1950 in Las Vegas, NV., with field collecting near Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.  His mother began acquiring minerals at that time while being mentored by a couple of true rockhounds – Bill & Mattie Brown.  Her collection became Marty’s in 1967.  He became a mineral dealer about 1980, selling duplicate specimens and mineral related art.  Marty sold his first mineral collection in 2005…and started collection #2 on the day the sale paperwork was signed!

Yes, his Dad was Martin Zinn Jr. - hence Martin Zinn III (and no middle name!)
