Bonjour,
I would like to share with you three different announcements of
positions and Visitor Program at the Earth's Science department of
University Clermont Auvergne. (Sorry for multiple posting).
1- Opening of a Professorship position at Laboratoire of Magmas and
Volcans, University Clermont Auvergne, France. The hiring procedure will
start soon and the work is expected to start in september 2025 (see
details below)
2- Post-doc fellows (3 positions expected) in the framework of the
Program of Excellence ClerVolc (see below and/or attached document).
Note that ClerVolc covers a large range of topics around the Volcano
Science, including deep mantle properties for example.

Professor position at Magmas and Volcanoes Laboratory at University
Clermont Auvergne, France
The Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans seeks to recruit a full professor. The
successful candidate will join one of the Magmas and Volcanoes
Laboratory teams (volcanology, experimental petrology, geochemistry).
He/she will be responsible for projects of international scope in the
broad field of magmas and volcanoes, from source regions in the deep
mantle to volcanic eruptions and associated risks, or in the field of
primitive Earth. The aim is to recruit a scientists capable of
developing a new area of excellence within the laboratory, or
strengthening one of its specialist areas.
The primary vocation of the LMV is to develop concepts and tools in the
disciplinary fields of volcanology, petrology and geochemistry, which
make it possible to answer fundamental questions with strong
implications in volcanology and magmatology. These answers are always
structured around cutting-edge technology and/or experimental or
analytical developments. LMV research therefore uses the most efficient
methods and tools from several disciplines of Earth Sciences
(experimental magmatology, mineralogy, petrology, geophysics, isotopic
and elemental geochemistry, materials physics, physical and analog
volcanology, etc) and is based on a large fleet of experimental
equipment and chemical and physical characterizations of rocks and
minerals (see page https://lmv.uca.fr/).
Teaching will concern the Earth Sciences Training at the Observatoire de
Physique du Globe de Clermont-Ferrand (OPGC), at the Bachelor's (L1 to
L3) and master's levels. The candidate will have to teach in French and
English in some of the following fields: magmatic, petrology,
geochemistry, volcanology, geodynamics, field geology, geomaterials and
hydrogeology. In addition to teaching in his or her specialist areas,
the person recruited will be expected to get involved in pedagogical and
institutional responsibilities.
Candidates will be able to apply from Feb. 2025 to the end of March
2025, 4PM Paris time. Interviews will take place in May 2025 and the
position will start in October 2025. However, note that candidates
occupying a position outside of France must go through a national
qualification phase. This qualification phase is done online from
October, 15, 2024 to December, 6, 2024 on the following portal
https://www.galaxie.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/ensu/cand_qualification_Odyssee.htm
Salary is fixed nationally and depends on the experience of the
recruited person and goes from 3200 € to 6500 € before tax. Salary
includes the classical French benefits package (health insurance plus
retirement).

ClerVolc program of excellence
International Research Center of Disaster Science and Sustainable
Development (IRC2D)
University Clermont Auvergne
2025 Postdoctoral Fellowships Proposal due by December
9th, 2024
ClerVolc invites applications for 3 postdoctoral fellow positions in our
multidisciplinary research group. Our consortium aims at developing
fundamental research in volcano science. We tackle a broad range of
themes including origin of volcanoes, mantle heterogeneities and deep
magma sources, role of volatile elements, magmatic and hydrothermal
plumbing systems, volcanic plumes, ash clouds, lava flows, and structure
and stability of edifices. Proposals involving the relevant fields of
science (geology, petrology, high-P-T experimentation, geochemistry,
geophysics, analogical experiments, numerical modelling, remote sensing,
mathematics, meteorology, physics, computer science, data science) are
of interest, as are developments of new approaches for tackling
fundamental questions.
With more than twelve years of activity, ClerVolc has acquired an
impressive set of world-class instruments, has developed unique
knowledge, and has conducted outstanding research. Potential applicants
with specific research needs can contact ClerVolc members to match and
enrich our mutual research capabilities.
Each fellowship is supported for 24 months. It includes a research
allowance based on the proposal. The gross annual salary will be the
Junior/Senior Post-Doctoral Allocation fixed by our University,
depending on the candidate's experience; it includes the classical
French benefits package (health insurance plus retirement and
unemployment benefits).
Proposals should be written in English and sent as a single pdf file by
email to the ClerVolc director (denis.andrault@uca.fr) by December 9th,
2024. They should consist of (1) a short CV, (2) an account of past
research (max 3 pages), (3) a non-exhaustive list of achievements
(selected publications, conferences, etc.; max 1 page), (4) the research
proposal (max 5 pages) with attached references and an evaluation of
envisaged costs for the planned research, (5) a short letter of
motivation including career plans, (6) names of two referees that the
selection committee may contact directly and (7) pdfs of three publications.
Candidates with a post-doctoral experience will be given priority.
Working language can be French or English. The selection process will
take place in January 2025 and attributions will be announced soon
after. Contracts can start between April and November 2025.
