Hi Frank and others,

UF remains compliant with all federal hiring statutes. More specifically, the Department of Geological Sciences is committed to maintaining an environment that welcomes diversity of ability, class, ethnicity/race, gender identity, and expression. We would whole heartedly welcome applicants from any LGBTQ+ group.

I hope that helps, and for any questions that a candidate would like to discuss more privately, I would encourage them to contact the search committee chair, Dr. David Foster (dafoster@ufl.edumailto:dafoster@ufl.edu).

All the best,
Steve

HELLO Steve,
A question came up when I shared this with potential applicant.

What Are Florida state laws regarding LGBQT+ hiring at state supported academic institutions?

Are these consistent with all applicable Federal statues?

Thank you for the information.

Dear colleagues,

Please see the ad below and attached for a full-time Research Faculty position with us at UF. The primary responsibilities are overseeing instrumentation and a small teaching contribution, but Research Scientists are treated as faculty members at UF, with voting rights, the ability to serve on graduate student committees, and a full benefits package. The Department of Geological Sciences at UF is a rapidly evolving and vibrant community, with 10 faculty hires in the past 6 years and wealth of world-class instrumentation. Please forward to anyone who might be interested!

The Department of Geological Scienceshttps://geology.ufl.edu/ in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida seeks a PhD-level (or equivalent) scientist for a nontenure accruing, full-time (12 month), faculty position with the rank Research Scientist. The successful candidate would oversee the management and operations of several multi-user instruments in the department that measure elemental and isotopic compositions of Earth, planetary, and archeological materials. The primary responsibilities include operation, calibration, maintenance, oversight, and training for: a Zeiss EVO MA10 SEM equipped with an Oxford Aztec EDS, a Rigaku XRF spectrometer, a Rigaku XRD, and an IsotopX NGX noble gas mass spectrometer for Ar/Ar analyses. Additional responsibilities include serving as the environmental health and safety coordinator for the department and overseeing the mineral separation facility. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in research, co-mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and contribute to a course in Instrumental Methods.

Applications will be reviewed beginning September 4, 2023, and the position will remain open until filled. Only complete applications will be reviewed at this time. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the search committee and/or hiring authority. Inquiries about the position should be directed to the Search Committee Chair, David Foster (dafoster@ufl.edumailto:dafoster@ufl.edu).

Cheers,

Steve Elardo
