Dear mineral sciences community members,

The first annual MSA Tucson Meeting, which took place in February 2026, was
a great success, with ~150 submitted abstracts and 200 attendees, including
~50 students. We heard from many of you who attended that it was the best
scientific meeting you had been to in a long time – or ever.

Encouraged by that enthusiasm, we are planning the 2027 MSA Tucson Meeting
to be just as great or even better.

The meeting will start on Sunday, February 14, with a day of overlap with
the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, followed by 3 days of talks + posters and
other events (February 15-17), and an optional day of field trips (Thursday
February 18).

If you are wondering: Why should I attend the MSA Tucson 2027 Meeting?
Here are our top 7 reasons:

  1. For student presenters: receive *f**ree* registration + *financial

support* for travel and meeting costs.

  1. Share and hear the best and the breadth of the Mineral Sciences in

our all-plenary oral sessions.

  1. Enjoy *l**ow-cost registration* that includes lunches, coffee/tea

breaks, and a reception at a mineral museum.

  1. Attend the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show – the *world’s premier mineral

event:* “Come for the show and stay for the MSA meeting!”

  1. Go on a f*ield trip* to a classic Arizona mineral locality or other

interesting site in or near Tucson.

  1. Enjoy *mingling with students and colleagues *at hosted lunches,

poster sessions, and the reception.

  1. Experience spectacular Arizona landscapes and (we hope)

pleasant *“escape
from winter” weather *(for those who need it).

We think that is already an excellent list, but stay tuned for information
about additional meeting-related events as planning progresses.

Abstract submission deadline: October 31

Please consider attending the MSA Tucson 2027 meeting. We hope to see you
there!
