The Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of
Michigan seeks applicants for a 1-academic year lecturer position.

Summary

Instruction of lecture and laboratory components in Earth
408:  Introduction to GIS in the Earth Sciences (3 credits), an
undergraduate course in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences
for the fall and winter terms (8/28/2023 - 4/30/2024) up to 100% effort,
with the option to teach one or more additional courses in the areas of
introductory geology, structural geology, mineral resource sustainability,
or hydrology.  Instruction includes preparation and delivery of lectures
and laboratory exercises; grading exams and homework assignments;
supervision of Graduate Student Instructors; grading of assignments,
quizzes, and exams; and meeting with students during office hours.

The appointment is for Fall Term 2023 and Winter Term 2024 (August 28, 2023

  • April 30, 2024).

Terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to the
provisions of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the University of
Michigan and the Lecturers Employee Organization.

Required Qualifications*

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental
Sciences, or a related field. Experience instructing geology or earth and
environmental sciences to undergraduates at both the introductory and upper
course levels is preferred. Experience instructing laboratory courses and
evidence of excellence in teaching are preferred.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between
the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains
and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other
terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates
upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party
administrator to conduct background checks.  Background checks are
performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
