GSW Council members and other important people,

We will have our spring Council meeting on Wednesday, April 12 from 3-5pm in the large conference room (Mantle) of the Geological Society of America’s DC office, which is located inside the AAAS building, at:
1200 New York Ave. NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20005

Visitors are required to use the entrance at 12th Street and H Street, NW, at the northwest corner of the intersection. You will have to sign in when you enter.
The building is easily accessible by subway; it is one block north of the 12th and G Street exit of the Metro Center subway stop. A map and printable directions are here:
https://www.geosociety.org/GSA/About/Who_We_Are/GSA/About/directions-DC.aspx

ACTION ITEM 1: I need a list of names of those who will attend, for security purposes, to be submitted to GSA/AAAS in advance. If you are one of the 16 who said you can attend, please reply to this email (not ‘reply all’) and let me know you intend to be there.

ACTION ITEM 2: Send any items that you wish to have on the agenda for the meeting.

Thanks, and I hope to see you tonight at the meeting,

Callan

Hi Callan and Craig,
I have reserved the large conference room (Mantle) for Wednesday, April 12 from 3-5. I'll need a list of attendees to give to the security guard in advance of the meeting.
Best,
Kasey

Thanks Craig. Yes, I’m aware of the Geophysical Lab’s remoteness from the Metro. Linking me up with Kasey is just as good!

Hi Kasey –
If GSA would be willing, the Geological Society of Washington would be grateful if we could borrow a conference room for a couple of hours. Generally, we have about fifteen people attending Council meetings. Currently, the date we’ve selected is Wednesday, April 12 from 3pm to 5pm. Will that work?
Thanks for considering it,
Callan

PS – GSW meets tonight at the Powell Auditorium of the Cosmos Club. 7:30pm drinks and socializing; 8pm formal program. If you haven’t been yet, we invite you to join us! It’s free and open to everyone. http://www.gswweb.org/

Dear Callan,

I am contacting Kasey White, GSA's Director of Geoscience Policy. If the GSA/IRIS conference room is not available for the GSW meeting, she may be able to recommend an nearby venue.

I can reserve a meeting room at the Geophysical Lab, but our campus is not near the Cosmos Club or a metro line. The Carnegie Headquarters building is at 16th and P Streets, NW (near Dupont Circle), but there may be a fee to use the facility, especially if the meeting extends beyond their normal business hours.

Best wishes,

Craig

Hi Craig,
A quick favor, if you can help…
The GSW Council typically meets at AGU headquarters, but AGU’s going to be under renovation starting next month. I seem to recall way back several years ago, that you hosted the Council meeting at GSA’s office. Now that you’ve gone back to Carnegie, who’s the ideal point of contact to see if GSA is willing to give the Council a room again for a couple of hours?
Thanks,
Callan

87.5% of you (N=16) said you could make Wednesday, April 12, before our regular GSW meeting. Only 2 were not able to make it then, so it looks like we’ll have a quorum.

Note that AGU headquarters will be under renovation at that time, and so we will not meet there but instead at an alternate location. I’ll email again when I have the location confirmed.

Thanks. Please mark your calendars.
