The Earth & Planets Laboratory at the Carnegie Institution for Science (Washington, DC campus) invites applications for a staff scientist in geochemistry/cosmochemistry at any career stage. Carnegie staff scientists hold 12-month salaried appointments and pursue independent research supported by a combination of endowment and federal funds. Carnegie Science is committed to creating an environment that supports belonging and inclusive excellence. We seek applicants with a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that will enhance our current strengths and approaches to investigate the origin and evolution of Earth and other rocky planets. Specific disciplines of interest include, but are not limited to, radiogenic or stable isotope geochemistry, with an emphasis on lab-based techniques.

The Carnegie Institution for Science is dedicated to exploring fundamental scientific questions in service to humankind. While staff scientists do not have formal teaching duties, mentoring postdoctoral scholars is a crucial component of the job. Individuals who actively contribute to their academic community through leadership and outreach are highly valued.On-site facilities include state-of-the-art experimental and analytical laboratories, high performance computing, a state-of-the-art machine shop, and engineering and electronics support. Beyond support for scientific success, Carnegie offers a competitive salary and benefits package including parental leave, health care, and retirement.

Applicants must have a Ph.D., or equivalent, in geochemistry, geology, planetary science, or a relevant field by the time of appointment.
