Dear MSA colleagues,
We are pleased to invite abstract submissions to our symposium:
Advanced X-Ray and Neutron Methods for Geochemical and Environmental Research
ACS Spring 2027
New Orleans, Louisiana, March 21–25, 2027
This symposium will highlight emerging and advanced X-ray and neutron techniques for investigating geochemical and environmental processes across a range of spatial, temporal, and chemical scales. We welcome contributions that demonstrate how modern scattering, spectroscopy, imaging, and total-scattering approaches provide new insights into the structure, reactivity, and transformation of minerals and environmental materials.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- X-ray and neutron diffraction, scattering, and total-scattering methods
- Pair distribution function (PDF) analysis of crystalline, nanocrystalline, and amorphous materials
- X-ray absorption spectroscopy and related spectroscopic techniques
- Resonant and surface-sensitive X-ray methods
- Synchrotron and neutron imaging and microscopy
- Mineral–water and mineral–organic interfaces
- Contaminant and nutrient interactions with minerals
- Mineral precipitation, dissolution, and transformation
- Redox processes and coupled mineral–organic reactions
- Critical minerals and resource recovery
- Environmental remediation and geochemical cycling
- In situ, operando, time-resolved, and extreme-environment measurements
- Advances in experimental and computational approaches for interpreting X-ray and neutron data

We warmly encourage members of the mineralogical, geochemical, and environmental communities to submit their work and share this call with colleagues and students who may be interested.
We look forward to an engaging symposium that brings together researchers developing and applying advanced X-ray and neutron techniques to understand geochemical and environmental processes.
