Diffraction and Microscopy Specialist Job in Earth Sciences, Cambridge

The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge is seeking an experienced and well organised scientist who will play a key role in managing and supporting the analytical facilities in the department's micro-analysis lab. These include two Bruker X-ray powder diffractometers and one QuantaFEG600 SEM with associated sample preparation and data analysis equipment. These state-of-the-art facilities are used for the investigation of geological and synthetic materials by a variety of people including academic staff, visiting scientists and postgraduate students from several research groups. The successful applicant would be expected to have comprehensive knowledge of one or more of the following techniques: X-ray diffraction (phase identification, structural analyses, structure solution and refinement, quantitative analyses, microstructural analyses), SEM imaging and data handling from SEM based techniques (CL, EDS), EBSD data analysis (for textural studies).
