Dear All,
We seek a postdoctoral researcher associate for joint appointment in the WiscSIMS Lab and the Petrology-Geochemistry Group supervised by Dr. Chloe Bonamici. The research associate will devote half of their effort to NSF-funded research of metasomatism in the Pelona-Orocopia-Rand schist and half of their effort assisting users and in operation of WiscSIMS. For their individual research, they will apply in situ geochronology and stable isotope measurements to determine the source and timing of metasomatizing fluids in the context of Miocene mineralization in the southwestern US. More information about the Petrology-Geochemistry Group is available here: https://sites.google.com/wisc.edu/uw-petro-geochem-lab?usp=sharing
The research associate will learn the operation of the WiscSIMS Cameca IMS 1280 secondary ion mass spectrometer in order to conduct their own research and in order to assist external user data collection in the WiscSIMS Lab. WiscSIMS is an internationally recognized and NSF-funded Community Facility specializing in the high spatial resolution measurements of stable isotopes. More information is available on the WiscSIMS webpage: https://wiscsims.geoscience.wisc.edu/.
Required Qualifications:
- A PhD in geology/geoscience/earth science with a focus in terrestrial geochemistry, petrology, geochronology, or economic geology
- Experience operating a mass spectrometer
- A desire to learn detailed operation of SIMS for stable isotope analysis
- Experience operating and collecting data with electron beam instruments (SEM and/or EPMA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with optical petrography
- Experience with Raman spectroscopy
- Knowledge in the areas of tectonics and/or structural geology
- Experience in hard-rock field work
To apply, please send the following documents by e-mail to Chloe Bonamici (bonamici@wisc.edu): A full CV, a cover letter addressing your qualifications in light of the required and preferred qualifications for the position, and the contact details for at least three professional references (names, institutions, and e-mail addresses).
Please contact Chloe Bonamici if you wish to discuss aspects of this position prior to applying.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Preferred start date is on or before October 1, 2026. UW-Madison is an equal opportunity employer.
