Dear colleagues,
We’d like to invite you to submit an abstract to AGU 2025 Fall Meeting (December 15–19, New Orleans, LA).
Session V019: Magmatic and Hydrothermal Processes at Mid-Ocean Ridges
(https://agu.confex.com/agu/agu25/prelim.cgi/Session/249158)
Mid-ocean ridges are dynamic systems where magmatic, hydrothermal, and biological processes interact. They are key sites of oceanic lithosphere formation and heat and mass transfer between the Earth’s interior and the oceans. Submarine volcanoes and hydrothermal vents with associated ecosystems play a critical role in global chemical evolution and biogeochemical cycles. This session seeks to foster discussion across disciplines to advance our understanding of mid-ocean ridge processes from a variety of approaches. We invite contributions that explore the interplay between seafloor magmatism, hydrothermal activity, and biological systems across temporal and spatial scales. Interdisciplinary studies that integrate field measurements, laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and geochemical analyses are welcome. Contributions highlighting new data from ocean drilling expeditions, ocean observatories, and geophysical instrumentation networks, especially those focused on active ridge volcanism, hydrothermalism, serpentinization and hydrogen gas generation, and carbonate mineral formation in ultramafic rocks and carbon sequestration are particularly encouraged.
Abstract submission deadline: July 30, 2025
Session Conveners: Qi Fu, Karen Bemis
