2 PhD positions in Experimental Petrology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Dear colleagues,
We invite applications for 2 PhD positions in experimental petrology / volcanology supervised by Prof. Peter Ulmer and Dr. Ben Ellis at the Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology at ETH Zurich (https://www.erdw.ethz.ch/en/).
We are searching for two highly motivated students to join our Magmatic Petrology group at ETH working on a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The two PhD position titles are:
- Li element and isotope partitioning and diffusion between solid, liquid and fluid in silicic magmatic system, and
- Cannibalisation of gabbroic cumulates by intermediate composition melts in arc magmas: A field, geochemical and experimental study
The length of the appointments will be up to 4 years, starting in Summer/Fall 2019.
Candidates should hold a M.Sc. degree with a strong background in geochemistry and/or geology. Experience in analytical techniques (EPMA, LA-ICPMS, FTIR, SIMS) or experimental petrology would be advantageous.
Interested candidates should send their applications, specifying which project they are applying for to Peter Ulmer (peter.ulmer@erdw.ethz.chmailto:peter.ulmer@erdw.ethz.ch) and Ben Ellis (ben.ellis@erdw.ethz.chmailto:ben.ellis@erdw.ethz.ch). Applications should comprise a curriculum vitae, a short (< 1 page) statement of motivation, and contact details for two referees combined in a single pdf file. Review of applications will begin Monday May 20th.
All the best,
Peter and Ben
