Arya,

We purchased the Leica EM ACE200 Carbon Thread Coater with the quartz crystal measurement (QSG) option about six months ago to replace our very (very) old carbon rod coater.

I can affirm that everything Hanna states in her post about the ACE600 applies also to the ACE200 - we are very pleased with the reproducibility of the coating process, real time thickness measurement of the QSG, and the ease of use.  If you’re just looking for moderate vacuum carbon coating the ACE200 is a more affordable option over the dual head, high-vacuum ACE600.

All of my lab group report much enhanced quality of life with this upgrade, compared to the trials of using our old carbon rod system!

configured for carbon thread sputter coating and glow discharge. We have
been very pleased with the ability to deposit very fine and consistent
carbon coats. You can set the desired coating thickness, and the result
delivered is very accurate. The coater is easy to use, and you can program
different recipes for different sample requirements -- making it easy to
use for users of any level. The coater can handle three geological thin
sections or about 25 standard sem stubs in a single session.

We coat about 1-2x a month on average. The carbon thread is expensive but
in the 17 months that the coater has been installed, we have only used ~1/2
a spool of carbon thread. We have heard from multiple sources not to try
and use third-party carbon thread, as the resulting coat will be worse and
you will use more thread per session.

All that said... It is an expensive option. But we have found the expense
worthwhile.

Cheers,
Hanna
