We are happy to invite you to the AIPEA ECCS Expert Webinar - Wide-Bandgap Phyllosilicate Materials as Quantum Platforms, which will be organised on June 12th 2026, 1pm UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), 10am São Paulo time (BRT, UTC−3), 3pm UTC (Central European Standard Time). The webinar will be organised by Raphaela de Oliveira (Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory). The lecture will be given by Dr Alisson R. Cadore (Brazilian Nanotechnology National Laboratory), whose research focuses, among other topics, on the two-dimensional materials and devices, spanning optoelectronics, memory technologies, and van der Waals heterostructures. A new series of webinars is designed to address the needs you highlighted in the survey (see below for details of the survey). You indicated a need for specialist webinars and workshops that explore a given topic in greater depth. Wide-Bandgap Phyllosilicate Materials as Quantum Platforms

Natural wide-bandgap phyllosilicates remain largely unexplored in electronics and quantum technologies. In this talk, I examine whether naturally occurring phyllosilicate crystals can be reimagined as functional two-dimensional materials (2DMs) and emerging quantum platforms. By mechanically exfoliating layered minerals, we integrate them into van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) with tailored properties. These materials combine large bandgaps, high dielectric strength, and environmental stability with composition-dependent optical and magnetic responses that are linked to iron content, intrinsic defects, and interlayer water. Such features enable localized states, polarization-dependent phenomena, and light–matter interactions relevant to quantum functionalities. I will present recent results on the structural, optical, and magnetic properties of these flakes, highlighting their impact on electronic transport and optoelectronic response in hybrid devices. This approach positions natural phyllosilicates as scalable, low-cost platforms for quantum and optoelectronic applications.

Alisson Cadore. Dr. Cadore is a Full Researcher at LNNano / CNPEM and a permanent faculty member in the Graduate Program in Physics at Federal University of Mato Grosso. His research focuses on two-dimensional materials and devices, spanning optoelectronics, memory technologies, and van der Waals heterostructures. More recently, his work has explored naturally occurring phyllosilicate minerals as emerging 2D platforms for electronic and optoelectronic applications, bridging condensed matter physics, materials science, and nanotechnology.
