Dear All,

We invite you to submit an abstract to an interdisciplinary AGU25 session
on ocean island and seamount processes:

V020 - Multi-disciplinary perspectives on ocean island and seamount
processes from above the top to below the bottom
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/agu.confex.com/agu/agu25/prelim.cgi/Session/252035__;!!JYXjzlvb!mYxOSMiM6w9XpwHRN2s3bZVdHYrTqheT1jF6gM1D9phBpDqBM4oVyj1DQBvDDiZkxC6oQ4ffkX4Drit4cElB4eBsKW1RpI-WHL4$

Session Description:

Ocean islands provide a window into mantle chemistry and dynamics that lead
to innovations in our understanding of the properties of Earth’s mantle and
its evolution over geologic time. Furthermore, the growth and eventual
subsidence of marine volcanic islands alters ocean circulation, biological
evolution of island species, and the chemistry of the ocean-atmosphere
system. This session aims to unite advancements from a wide range of
studies to address questions related to melting and fluid dynamics of the
mantle beneath these features, the composition of the mantle sourcing ocean
island volcanism, the magmatic and physical expressions of volcanism at
ocean islands, impacts of these systems on the ocean-atmosphere system, and
relationships between these themes. We intend for this session to highlight
the major themes for advances and challenges in seamount and ocean island
science, identifying gaps in knowledge that could be addressed through
cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Cross-Listed

Tectonophysics, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Biogeosciences

We hope to see you in New Orleans in December!

Conveners:

Janine Andrys, Boise State University

Eric Mittelstaedt, University of Idaho
