GSA Connects 2026 Session on Critical Mineral Geochronology

Dear Colleagues,

Please consider submitting an abstract of your research to our topical session, Geochronology of Ore Deposits Containing Critical Minerals: Analytical Advances and Applications, at the upcoming Geological Society of America Connects 2026 Conference (11-14 October, Denver, CO).

The deadline for abstract submission is Thursday, 6 August 2026 at: https://gsameetings.secure-platform.com/connects26/

We welcome submissions discussing analytical aspects of radiometric dating methods such as U-Th-Pb, Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr, Re-Os, and Sm-Nd used for dating ore deposits and/or studies applying radiometric dates for ore genesis research or critical mineral resource evaluation.  Instrumental methods may include thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), noble gas mass spectrometry, laser ablation – single collector – inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry (LA-SC-ICP-MS), multi-collector mass spectrometry (LA-MC-ICP-MS), or tandem mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS/MS) and any related techniques. Studies of U-Th-Pb dating of common-Pb-rich minerals are of special interest. Geology, mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, and geophysics can all be linked to determine the age of critical mineral-bearing ore deposits or to identify multiple generations of ore-forming events in the same deposit, and associations of critical element-carrier minerals with gangue minerals formed during the same ore-forming event.

Manuscripts related to presentations in this session will be welcome to be submitted to an upcoming Special Collection of papers in American Mineralogist
