The Institute of Earth Sciences within the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth
Sciences of Heidelberg University seeks to hire a faculty member as:
Professor in Geodynamics
W3 professorship in the German salary scale for scholars
at the earliest possible date.
Applicants (f/m/d) should have an established record, preferentially with
emphasis on field-based investigations, state-of-the-art analytical methods,
and numerical modelling, ideally in an integrated manner. We expect
outstanding scientific accomplishments in investigating interactions between
processes within the solid earth (in particular of a tectonic nature) and
those at the surface. Research approach and methods should complement and
strengthen existing research foci at the Institute of Earth Sciences.
The faculty position has responsibility for core courses in the existing
curricula for the Earth Science Bachelor and Master programs. Teaching
proficiency for fundamental courses in structural geology and tectonics,
which includes strong field-based training, is a prerequisite. The position
links research groups within the Institute of Earth Sciences, and
campus-wide with research groups in Environmental Physics, Geography as well
as other cooperating entities such as the Heidelberg Center for the
Environment (HCE) and the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing
(IWR). The candidate is expected to establish a primarily externally funded
research program and to participate in academic self-government.
Prerequisites for application are a university degree, a doctoral degree and
(in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of
the State of Baden-Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated
junior professorship, or equivalent merits.
