Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to our session on "Interdisciplinary perspectives in understanding fluids and melts in Earth's interior (V012)."

Session description:
Fluids such as CO₂, H₂O, and N₂, and melts (anhydrous, hydrous, carbonated, and metal melts) play crucial roles in the generation and transport of magmas within Earth's interior, shaping its structural and chemical evolution over geological timescales. These melts influence global geochemical, geophysical, and geodynamical processes, including Earth’s liquid core dynamo, core-mantle differentiation, and the distribution of major and trace elements in Earth’s interior. Understanding the physicochemical properties of rock-fluid and rock-melt mixtures under extreme conditions is crucial for Earth and Planetary sciences.
Recent advancements in experimental, computational, seismological, and electromagnetic techniques have significantly enhanced our understanding of these properties in the Earth’s interior. This session encourages an interdisciplinary approach to further enhance our knowledge of fluids and melts present in Earth’s interior. This session may potentially lead to a special collection in the Journal of Geophysical Research-Solid Earth, offering an exciting opportunity for contributors to further expand the impact of their research .

Invited Speakers:

Michael J Walter (Carnegie Institution for Science)

Andrea Giuliani (ETH Zurich)
