Picture in 500 words – The Conversation

Hi folks,

I don’t know whether anyone ever reads popular science articles in the online journal, The Conversation, but they asked me to write a short piece for their series “Picture in 500 words”.

They just published my little piece with an X-ray map of thorium in a monazite crystal about the origin of the Himalaya this morning.

If anyone’s interested, here’s the link:

Of course, not everything is explained super well (lots to complain about), but I had only 500 words.

I liked working with them, so if anyone else is asked to contribute, I can recommend the experience.

They need more geology articles.

Best,

Matt

Note: While I may send email outside of regular business hours, I do not expect the same from others.
