Attached is the GSW Treasurer's report (Council_report_Apr17) and the
financial status spreadsheet (GSW_sum_BID7) for the GSW council meeting next
Wednesday. I'm also attaching the current version of the Investment Policy
(Invest_policy_2016), as there are a number of new council members who have
not seen this previously. Please bring copies of all these items to the
council meeting, either on your laptop or in hard copy, as I won't be
passing out copies at the meeting. Also please review the spreadsheet and
the description of the spreadsheet in the Treasurer's report before the
meeting - the spreadsheet is complex and I won't have time to explain it at
the meeting.
I will also be sending on a short discussion of liability insurance that we
will be discussing at the meeting. GSW has never had liability insurance of
any kind, and now that our financial status is much stronger than in the
past, we should consider purchasing such insurance, especially since we
sponsor field trips for which we bear the ultimate responsibility.
The Finance Committee should be forwarding their report to you in a separate
message.
Cheers
Odette James, Treasurer
Attached is a brief write-up of evaluation of the two types of liability
insurance GSW might purchase, for consideration at the council meeting next
Wednesday. If any of you would also like me to send on a sample policy for
either type of insurance, please ask and I will do so.
Cheers
Odette James
Attached are the draft minutes for approval. I incoporated changes
that were sent when I sent these out before.

Hi Kasey –
If GSA would be willing, the Geological Society of Washington would be
grateful if we could borrow a conference room for a couple of hours.
Generally, we have about fifteen people attending Council meetings.
Currently, the date we’ve selected is Wednesday, April 12 from 3pm to 5pm.
Will that work?
Thanks for considering it,
Callan

Dear Callan,
I am contacting Kasey White, GSA's Director of Geoscience Policy. If the
GSA/IRIS conference room is not available for the GSW meeting, she may be
able to recommend an nearby venue.
I can reserve a meeting room at the Geophysical Lab, but our campus is not
near the Cosmos Club or a metro line. The Carnegie Headquarters building is
at 16th and P Streets, NW (near Dupont Circle), but there may be a fee to
use the facility, especially if the meeting extends beyond their normal
business hours.
Best wishes,

you’ve gone back to Carnegie, who’s the ideal point of contact to see if GSA
