Please, excuse multiple postings.
We are happy to announce that the 2018 edition of International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) Commission on High Pressure Workshop, will be held in Honolulu, HI on July 29-August 2, 2018. The workshop website is available here:
https://hp2018honolulu.github.io/index.html https://hp2018honolulu.github.io/index.html
The meeting registration will start on March 10. We will have a limited number of travel awards to help young participants (the details of the application process will be posted on the website when the registration opens). A range of accommodation options, from 4 start Waikiki area hotels to inexpensive on-campus student dorms will be available.
On July 29 we are planning to offer a one day software training workshop, focused on analysis of experimental data from home-lab, as well as synchrotron single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments in diamond anvil cell. Detailed information about the training event will be posted on the meeting website.
Based on the statistics from the previous events of this series, we are expecting that the meeting will attract about 100 participants from around the world with broad multidisciplinary base. The participants are usually a mix of experimental and computational scientists from academic, private and government labs. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers who apply the tools of extreme conditions crystallography to different disciplines of science, including biology, condensed-matter physics, solid-state chemistry, geophysics, materials science, and nanotechnology, and to stimulate discussions about recent developments in these fields and exciting new research directions for the future.
The meeting will feature a total of 11 scientific sessions:
Session 1: Emerging experimental techniques (Chair: Nandini Garg)
Session 2: Advanced synchrotron and optical characterization of materials at extreme conditions (Chair: Vitali Prakapenka)
Session 3: New frontiers in extreme conditions crystallography (Chair: Amy Lazicki)
Session 4: High pressure chemistry and synthesis (Chair: Kamil Dziubek)
Session 5: Materials science (Chair: Haozhe Liu)
Session 6: Materials metastability under pressure (Chair: Guoyin Shen)
Session 7: High-pressure crystallography in earth and planetary science (Chair: Jiuhua Chen)
Session 8: Electronic and magnetic materials at extreme conditions (Chair: Narcizo Souza-Neto)
Session 9: Coordination chemistry and porous materials (Chair: Andrzej Katrusiak)
Session 10: Computational approaches in extreme conditions science (Chair: Zhongquing Wu)
Session 11: Soft matter and biological systems (Chair: TBA)
We will also have three keynote lectures, by Dr. Jon Eggert (LLNL), Dr. Shanti Deemyad (University of Utah) and Dr. Yongjae Lee (Yonsei University).
We are very much hoping to see you all in the Pacific Paradise and look forward to talking about exciting science and sharing the Aloha Spirit!!
On behalf of the Organizing Committee,
Przemek
