Dear Colleagues,
The Mineralogical Society of America is seeking nominations for the 2025
Roebling Medal.
The Roebling Medal is the highest award of the Mineralogical Society of
America for scientific eminence as represented primarily by scientific
publication of outstanding original research in mineralogy. The science
of mineralogy is defined broadly for purposes of the Roebling Medal, and
a candidate need not qualify as a mineralogist; rather his or her
published research should be related to the mineralogical sciences and
should make some outstanding contribution to them. Nationality,
personality, age of candidate, or place of employment shall not be
considered for the award. Membership in the Mineralogical Society of
America is not a necessary prerequisite to receive the award.
Please note, the nomination process for awards has been changed by a
vote of the MSA Council. The process will now be in two steps: (1) A
preliminary nomination and (2) a final nomination.
The preliminary nominations will only consist of a Nomination
Coversheet; letter from the nominator (limit two pages); and the CV of
the nominee. The names of three other individuals who are likely to
supply support letters for the final nomination are optional at this
stage. This preliminary package is due by March 10 and should be sent to
Ann Benbow in the MSA Business office: abenbow@minsocam.org. The awards
committee will review the preliminary nominations and will notify
nominators by April 10 if they are to submit a final nomination.
A full description of the award, a list of previous recipients and
instructions for submitting nominations may be found at
https://msaweb.org/roebling/
The deadline for submitting preliminary nominations for the 2025
Roebling Medal is March 10, 2024.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Astrid Holzheid
