Dear MSA Members,

MSA was “born" 99 years ago today; thus, 2019 is our Centennial Year.  There are several ways we plan to celebrate this one being a two day symposium in Washington, DC on June 20-21, along with the scientific program, we’ll be able to toast 100 years of MSA on the evening of June 20 in the gem, mineral, and geology halls at the Smithsonian.  Details of the symposium and registration information can be found at:  http://www.minsocam.org/MSA/Centennial/MSA_Centennial_index.html

We’ll continue this celebration at the GSA meeting in Phoenix (Sept 22-25), with an enhanced reception and a more-than-usual number of MSA-sponsored Topical Sessions.  However we need you, the members, to submit these sessions.  They can be submitted at https://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2019AM/cfs.cgi; the deadline is Feb 1, 2019.  When you submit them please copy our MSA reps - Phil Brown <pbrown@geology.wisc.edumailto:pbrown@geology.wisc.edu> and Jane A. Gilotti <jane-gilotti@uiowa.edumailto:jane-gilotti@uiowa.edu>.

Finally, Happy New Year to all as we look forward to MSA turning 100!

best,
Mickey
