Hello GSW Council+ ,
The Geochemical Society runs a mentoring program at the Goldschmidt Meeting -- thus, smaller in scope (short term) relative to what we are discussing here.
Here is the description of the program:
https://goldschmidt.info/2020/mentoring
Here is the response to my inquiry regarding liability:
The only mentoring program we have currently takes place at Goldschmidt. So it's fairly limited. We run it in the sense of matching the students with mentors. We do have a large liability insurance policy in place for the conference. Our lawyer has told me that there's really no such thing as being absolved of all liability for things that happen at one of our programs. There is always a risk, so the key is to structure things in such a way as to minimize it. Having the mentors/mentees meet at designated places in the convention center, having a place for mentees to get help if they need it, etc.

Good morning everyone,
AGU has several mentoring programs - see this link for full line up - https://mentoring365.chronus.com/p/p1/pages/programs
The matching for the virtual (Mentoring365) and live (Mentoring365 Live) programs takes place in the platform - as in students can choose who they want as their mentor based on criteria they choose - they get a selection of names and they can select a mentor. A mentor has to accept the invitation to be a mentor to that student (mentee). Once the match is made, there are automatic messages that are sent to both. For the Live version of the program, the mentor and mentee meet at the Fall Meeting at some

See example of what a mentee is signing up for -- https://mentoring365.chronus.com/p/p1/pages/3676?src=tab
Regarding expectations and behaviors - click on the Terms and Conditions link at bottom of page (https://mentoring365.chronus.com/p/p1/). Both parties (mentors and mentees) are held accountable to the code of conduct described in the Terms and Conditions link.
I hope this is useful information to everyone.
