Dear Colleagues, (with apologies for multiple postings)

With only 10 days until the abstract deadline 22 March, we encourage submission of abstracts for the EMC meeting and hope to see you in Dublin!

The 4th European Mineralogical Conference will be held at Trinity College, Dublin, from 18-23 August 2024. Please see: www.emc-2024.orghttps://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/www.emc-2024.org__;!!PvXuogZ4sRB2p-tU!DWWAUZ277gNVdQkBgjpvDjz9-t2fcpZn2_ugwqneX5Qli0bUOIl9reibXusq3AcH0PjUJDL7j-kMWewYfg$ for details. An exciting and expansive program of sessions and field trips is planned and now is the time to submit abstracts.

Please consider submitting an abstract for the EMC session "The Testimony of Minerals: A Celebration of Edward S. Grew at 80" and help us celebrate Ed's incredible contributions to the geosciences on the occasion of his 80th birthday!

A special issue of Mineralogical Magazine will also be published next year to honor Ed Grew. We welcome contributions from those who can and cannot attend his session in Dublin. More information soon.

Abstracts are due 22 March, and can be submitted at this link: https://emc-2024.org/abstract-submission/

Session description: Throughout his remarkable career, Ed Grew has deciphered and shared the deep-time stories locked in rocks and minerals. In works of meticulous scholarship and deep insight, Ed has revealed the rich context and varied processes of mineral formation in deposits from Greenland to the Antarctic, from the metamorphics of Tajikistan to his beloved Maine pegmatites. He is the world’s authority on the minerals of lithium, beryllium, and boron, including pioneering studies on their mineral evolution and ecology. His work on metamorphic minerals, notably the garnet group and sapphirine-surinamite groups, are classic contributions. In short, Ed Grew’s influence on the mineralogical community has been lasting and profound.

This session, in honor of Ed Grew’s long and distinguished career, welcomes a wide range of contributions that touch on the varied aspects of his research, including (but not limited to) complex pegmatites, the geology and mineralogy of Antarctica, metamorphic minerals, the minerals of rare elements, mineral evolution and ecology, crystal chemistry and varied aspects of petrologic mineralogy.

Keynote Speakers are: Horst Marschall and Bob Hazen
