Hello MSA members,
The MSA welcomes nominations for the 2025 Dana Medal. The deadline is June 1.
The Dana Medal is given in recognition of sustained outstanding scientific contributions to the mineralogical sciences (in the broadest sense) by an individual in the midst of his or her career. This means that the candidate should have received his/her terminal degree within the last 25 years, i.e., after Jan 1, 2000.
Please be aware that extensions to the 25-year rule are possible for reasons that include illness, childbirth, care giving, and serving on MSA council. Conversely, the candidate should not have received the MSA award, and cannot be currently serving on MSA council.
A full description of the award and a list of recipients may be found at: http://www.minsocam.org/MSA/Awards/Dana.html
Instructions for submitting nominations may be found at: https://msaweb.org/dana-medal/
Although the deadline for submitting nominations for the 2025 Dana Medal is June 1, 2025, earlier submissions are appreciated so that I can review them and recommend any corrections or additions.
Please take a moment to review the list of Dana Medal recipients (https://msaweb.org/dana-medal/) and MSA award recipients (https://msaweb.org/msa-award/). If you know of someone who received his/her terminal degree after Jan 1, 2000, whose scientific contributions should be recognized by this award, and who has not already received either the Dana Medal or the MSA award, please consider organizing a nomination effort on his/her behalf.
