Dear all,
I am emailing this reminder that I am looking for a PhD student at the
University of Bern. The PhD position is a part of the Ambizione
project, "Quantifying
redox reactions in the subducting slab: Insights from in situ analysis of
Fe, C, and S in high-pressure metamorphic rocks," awarded by the Swiss
National Science Foundation. The student will be co-advised by myself and
Prof. Jörg Hermann.
In this project, the PhD student will measure the oxidation states of Fe,
C, and S in rocks from western Norway to elucidate what redox reactions may
occur between these elements during continental subduction to ultrahigh
pressure conditions. The project will involve wet chemical analysis, lab
and synchrotron based in situ X-ray microanalysis, and thermodynamic
modeling. The student is expected to start in the first half of 2024 and
fieldwork is planned for summer of 2024.
Applications will be evaluated starting on the 1st of December, 2023, and
evaluation will continue until the position is filled. Please see the
attached advertisement for additional information.
Apologies for cross posting.
Sincerely,
-Jesse Walters
