The Curator of the Mineralogy Collections is responsible for the effective management of five, national, earth-sciences sub collections: minerals, gems, mineral deposits / occurrences, rocks and meteorites. The Curator will work in collaboration with staff of the Mineralogy Section on the development of the collections, but is the main person responsible for the development of the display portion of the collections. The goal of all of this is to ensure maximum long-term value of the collections for Canada and to contribute to corporate objectives. As part of the responsibility for the display portion of the collections, the Curator will be expected to cultivate external working relationships with influential museum curators, dealers and potential patrons. Up to but no more than 20% of time may be spent in research activities.
NOTE: A formal procedure for promotion based on achievements is in place to develop the career path of CMN’s curators. An excellent benefits package comes with the position.

LANGUAGE EQUIREMENTS:
English and French are essential
Bilingual non-imperative: BBB/BBB
(A non-imperative appointment means that the position can be staffed with a person who makes the commitment to become bilingual within a specified timeframe through language training at the CMN’s expense).
EDUCATION: Graduation with a Master of Science degree from a recognized university with a demonstrated concentration in Mineralogy. Priority consideration will be given to candidates with a diverse, practical knowledge of mineral groups and species; other areas of specialization within Geology may also be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience working in a museum/scientific environment;
• Experience working with Mineralogy collections and a variety of geological materials;
• Experience in the supervision and management of staff, in the development of work programs and budgets, in setting priorities and carrying out revenue-generating activities;
• Experience with geo-informatics and the use of data management systems;
• Experience with analytical techniques involved in mineral identification;
• Experience using a variety of office software including: word processing and presentation applications; spreadsheets; databases; and electronic mail.
