Dear Colleagues,
The International Clay Conference (ICC) will take place in Dublin, Ireland on 13th to 18th of July 2025 (https://icc.aipea.org/).
We are organising a thematic session entitled ‘Effect of chemical reactions on clay minerals and/or clayey porous media properties’.
Contributions in relation to chemical reactions such as dissolution/precipitation, sorption including ion-exchange and surface complexation operating at the clay/water interface which can affect individual particles’ properties as well as the properties of clayey porous media are highly welcomed. At the scale of the individual particle, these reactions can affect its crystal-chemistry, morphology or surface properties, while at the scale of the porous media these interactions can have an impact on the spatial organization of the particles in the compacted system. These modifications, of biotic or abiotic origin, can then in turn impact strongly the hydration, mechanical, and transport properties (both gas and/or fluid) of these porous media. Studies combining experimental and simulated data using different numerical models, irrespective of the spatial and temporal scales investigated (from the individual particle to that of the porous media) will be extremely appreciated.
For more details please go to the https://icc.aipea.org/sessions-list/
The call for abstracts is now open (as is online registration) and the deadline for submission of abstracts is 11th April 2025. The conference will be organised in a hybrid form (both on site and through videoconferencing).
Your participation and contribution would be greatly appreciated and we sincerely hope you could present your latest research on the “effect of chemical reactions on clay minerals and/or clayey porous media properties” during this session.
Please feel free to contact us if any question, in particular regarding the scope of the session.
We look forward to seeing you in Dublin in July (live or through videoconferencing)
Kind Regards,
The conveners: Emmanuel Tertre, Thorsten Schäfer and Valentin Robin
