Dear Colleagues,
This year, Avner Vengosh and I are organizing a one-day workshop at Goldschmidt in Montreal on critical minerals:
Workshop, Saturday, July 11: Critical minerals: Advancing geochemical research by breaking down disciplinary barriers
https://conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/2026/goldschmidt/2026/meetingapp.cgi/Session/8492
Please consider registering when you submit your abstract.
This workshop aims to bring together experts from a wide range of disciplines to exchange ideas and explore how we can bring down disciplinary barriers in critical minerals research and education. A further goal of the workshop is to identify concrete next steps, which may include outlining a research roadmap, developing collaborative networks, and considering joint contributions such as a perspective or white paper.
Confirmed speakers:
Owen Weller, University of Cambridge; Using thermodynamic modelling to constrain major and trace element evolution of magmatic critical metal deposits.
Erin Benson, Washington State University; Fingerprinting mineralizing fluids in carbonatite-hosted rare earth element deposits: Examples from Mountain Pass, USA.
Yuanzhi Tang, Georgia Tech; Academic, industry, and government partnerships to address critical minerals needs.
Dan Ibarra, Brown University; Isotopic approaches to disentangling enrichment mechanisms in sedimentary lithium deposits.
Gordon Williams, Duke University; Geochemistry of lithium brines.
Avner Vengosh, Duke University; Environmental considerations in the life cycle of critical minerals.
Chen Zhu, Indiana University; Geochemical modeling as a bridge between basic science and applications.
Best regards,
Chen Zhu, Indiana University
