2027 Postdoctoral Fellowships
Proposal due by October 31th, 2026
ClerVolc invites applications for 2 to 3 postdoctoral fellow positions
in our multidisciplinary research group. Our consortium aims at
developing fundamental research in volcano science. We tackle a broad
range of themes including origin of volcanoes, mantle heterogeneities
and deep magma sources, role of volatile elements, magmatic and
hydrothermal plumbing systems, volcanic plumes, ash clouds, lava flows,
and structure and stability of edifices. Proposals involving the
relevant fields of science (geology, petrology, high-P-T
experimentation, geochemistry, geophysics, analogical experiments,
numerical modelling, remote sensing, mathematics, meteorology, physics,
computer science, data science) are of interest, as are developments of
new approaches for tackling fundamental questions.
With almost twenty years of activity, ClerVolc has acquired an
impressive set of world-class instruments, has developed unique
knowledge, and has conducted outstanding research. Potential applicants
with specific research needs can contact ClerVolc members to match and
enrich our mutual research capabilities.
Each fellowship is supported for 24 months. It includes a research
allowance based on the proposal. The gross annual salary will be the
Junior/Senior Post-Doctoral Allocation fixed by our University,
depending on the candidate's experience; it includes the classical
French benefits package (health insurance plus retirement and
unemployment benefits).
Proposals should be written in English and sent as a single pdf file by
email to the ClerVolc director (denis.andrault@uca.fr) by October 31st,
2026. They should consist of (1) a short CV, (2) an account of past
research (max 3 pages), (3) a non-exhaustive list of achievements
(selected publications, conferences, etc.; max 1 page), (4) the research
proposal (max 5 pages) with attached references and an evaluation of
envisaged costs for the planned research, (5) a short letter of
motivation including career plans, (6) names of two referees that the
selection committee may contact directly and (7) pdfs of three
publications.
Preference will be given to candidates who already have postdoctoral
experience. Working language can be French or English. The selection
process will take place in December 2026 and attributions will be
announced soon after. Contracts can start in early 2027 and not later
than October 1st 2027.
