Hi everyone,

I am planning on doing some experiments using Marcasite but have been
having a difficult time purchasing marcasite that doesn't turn out to be
pyrite. Please let me know if you know a good source of marcasite.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan

we have received good material from https://www.excaliburmineral.com/

We have not asked for marcasite, but they supplied other useful
material.  They seem to know what they have and what they sell. It is
worth checking them out.

Dan,
Yes, much of what has been called marcasite is actually pyrite as Klaus mentioned.  Even much or the coarsely crystalline “marcasite” from Nanisivik has inverted to pyrite.  Good marcasite for research should be coarse crystals, and material from Rennselaer, IN, MVT Pb-Zn deposits such as the Tri-State district (especially Baxter Springs, KS), and some material from Nanasivik.  Klaus mentioned Excaliber Minerals, and if their material has been confirmed as marcasite by XRD, then you are all set.  If you need a small amount (not kg), let me know—I have some xls from Rennselaer, and cockscomb xls from Baxter Springs, KS I can probably part with.
