We are running a one-day short course at GSA Connects 2026 in Denver:
SC26CN05. Fundamentals and Geoscience Applications of Time-of-Flight Mass
Spectrometry
Saturday, 10 October 2026, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The course covers the fundamentals of ToF separation and sample
introduction, with applications drawn dominantly from laser ablation
ICP-ToF-MS: geochronology, trace element and isotope imaging, mineral
chemistry, single particle analysis, and full-spectrum screening. This will
be a mostly hands-on course with participants collecting data remotely from
a live LA-ICP-ToF-MS instrument and reducing and interpreting it
themselves. We’ll also explore software tools and workflows for handling
large, high-dimensional imaging datasets. By the end of the course,
participants should be able to design LA-ICP-ToF-MS experiments and process
and interpret the resulting data. The course is aimed at graduate students,
postdocs, faculty, and analytical staff. No prior experience is needed.
The course is generously sponsored by Nu Instruments and Elemental
Scientific Lasers. Lunch is provided. Course cost is $15.
