What can minerals tell us about the evolution of our planet? On December 8,
2022, the Earth and Planets Laboratory (EPL) invites you to join Dr. Robert
M. Hazen, for a special presentation of “Minerals: Earth’s Ultimate Time
Capsules.”
During the talk, you’ll learn how Hazen and his team combine the new fields
of "mineral evolution" and "mineral informatics" to uncover the secret
4.5-billion-year saga of our planet. Using mineralogy as a lens, Hazen will
take guests back in time through many of Earth’s dramatic transformations,
driven by physical, chemical, and—based on a growing body of
evidence—biological processes. The talk will also explore the larger
question of evolving systems, and whether a "missing law" of nature might
be necessary to understand the richness of our universe.
This #NeighborhoodLecture will take place at 6:30 PM EST in the Greenewalt
Auditorium of Carnegie's Broad Branch Road Campus in NW, Washington, DC. You
