The Mineralogical Society of America is seeking a new Editor for its flagship journal, American Mineralogist, as one of the current Editors will be finishing his term by the end of 2025. The new position will begin officially in January of 2026, but the incoming Editor will need to be identified by July of 2025 so there can be overlap for training by the current Editors.
Essential qualifications include excellent editing and communication skills and the ability to commit the necessary time for weekly editing and decision-making as well as monthly virtual meetings with the rest of the American Mineralogist team at MSA headquarters in Washington DC. Editors also help identify, recruit, and train Associate Editors. Ideally, the Editors are alert to possible areas for improvement and opportunity. A preferred qualification is experience as an Associate Editor for American Mineralogist or other relevant editorial experience.
MSA is deeply proud of American Mineralogist and its more than 100 years of publishing excellence. American Mineralogist Editors are a vital part of this tradition and play a key role in leading the journal into the future. The topic of the journal is “mineralogy” in its broadest sense, and the Editors typically represent this breadth in their research expertise. The position of Editor is not a salaried position, but there is an annual stipend. If you have questions about the stipend, please contact Ann Benbow at the email below.
To apply, please email a cover letter expressing interest, your mineralogical specialties, and a current CV to Ann Benbow at abenbow@minsocam.orgmailto:abenbow@minsocam.org by June 6, 2025.
