Webinar Speaker - 10 February 2021

[cid:image002.jpg@01D6FBA6.B6503120]

Some great artists show a flash of genius and are gone, some show us a new vision and spend the rest of their careers repeating themselves, and a few, the very greatest, continue to explore and reinvent themselves year after year, taking their work and their audience to ever greater heights and enriching the broader culture in the process.  Paula Crevoshayhttps://www.crevoshay.com/ is widely recognized to be among the very few in the latter group.

Crevoshay has been acclaimed as one of the most influential jewelry designers of our time and is considered by many knowledgeable critics to be among the very best of all time.  The jewelry press has dubbed her “The Queen of Color” for her painterly approach to gemstone use and students in fashion and design schools write reports on her and her work.  It has been said that “Crevoshay is to fine art jewelry what Picasso is to modern art and Chihuly is to art glass”.  She truly is a pioneer.

From the very beginning Crevoshay has applied Fine Art Principles to jewelry design.  In addition to Fine Art, Crevoshay studied Anthropology, especially Symbolism, and you will note in her very modern expression of artistic archetypes, echoes of cultures past, which makes her work accessible to people everywhere.

Today Crevoshay enjoys the patronage of art connoisseurs and avid jewelry collectors the world over.  Her work has been exhibited in museums in the United States, France and India and is on display at the Gemological Institute of America, Carnegie Museum and in the National Gem Collection at the Smithsonian where it continues to surprise and delight new people every year.

Paula Crevoshay began her career as a fine jewelry artist over three decades ago.  She has always done original, one-of-a-kind pieces and has turned down opportunities to mass produce her designs because she has wanted to help elevate the role of the jewelry designer from an anonymous function to that of a fine artist.  She has also wanted to return jewelry to its original place among finest of the fine arts, more durable even than architecture.  In this light she strives to produce jewels of the highest artistic quality and show the best that can be done in our culture and time, and set a high standard for generations to come.

Her intention is to show that it is possible to make a living doing original works of art in jewelry and therefore to widen the path for others to follow.  She is pleased when other designers say they have been inspired by her example.  She is gratified that as far back as 2006 more than half of the hits to her web site were from educational https://www.crevoshay.com/.  The fact that over half of these schools are in Europe and Asia shows that her growing influence on the next generation of artists and designers is international.

Crevoshay's work has been exhibited in numerous Museums: Albuquerque Museum, Bellevue Art Museum - Seattle, Carnegie Museum – Pittsburgh, Gemological Institute of America Museum - One Woman Show 2002, Gwinnett Art Museum- Atlanta, Tilak School of Architecture - Puna, Somewhere in the Rainbow / Univ. of Arizona Gem & Mineral Museum – Tucson 2017 and Yale Peabody Museum – New Haven, among others.  Crevoshay has also received many awards such as Couture Design Award,  Diva Award, Forbes – Best Designer Jewels for 2019, Jewelers Choice Awards – Best of the Best 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and  Women’s Jewelers Association Award for Excellence in Design.
