Dear colleagues,

This is a final reminder - the registration deadline for science workshops through Goldschmidt is May 31!

We invite you to participate in ExTerra 2023: Understanding subduction through the study of exhumed terranes https://conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/2023/meetingapp.cgi/Session/4672, a pre-Goldschmidt workshop. This two-day workshop will be held July 8-9, 2023 in Lyon, France immediately preceding the 2023 Goldschmidt conference https://conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/2023/goldschmidt/2023/meetingapp.cgi/. The goal of the workshop is to gather and synergize the range of geoscientists investigating rocks exhumed from fossil subduction zones, particularly those focused on the subducted slab, middle and lower arc crust, mantle wedge, and fault/shear zones. The workshop will focus on research themes of common interest to these groups, including rheology and deformation, rates and conditions of subduction processes, and geochemical cycling. It will include opportunities for scientific presentations (talks and posters) from interested participants and breakout discussions to help identify future group endeavors. We will share the outcomes of the ExTerra Field Institute and Research Endeavor (E-FIRE, 2016-2023) and lay the groundwork for new activities focused on connecting exhumed terranes to subduction zone science, including outreach and accessibility activities.

Keynote speakers include:

Jay Ague (Yale University), Taras Gerya (ETH Zurich), Megan Holycross (Cornell University), Sarah Incel (Imperial College London), Benjamin Klein (University of Lausanne), Othmar Müntener (University of Lausanne), and Roberta Rudnick (University of California, Santa Barbara)

Workshop registration is through the Goldschmidt Conference website https://conf.goldschmidt.info/goldschmidt/2023/meetingapp.cgi/ModuleMeetingInfo/Registration. Registration is a mere 25 euros for onsite participants. A remote option will be available also with a registration fee of only 10 euros.

Please forward this email to any other interested parties. Please feel free to contact any of the conveners if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
