Hello everyone,
We are excited to share the final announcement introducing our lecturers
for the fully virtual workshop: “Recent Developments and Applications in
Earth and Planetary Sciences of Electron Probe Micro-analysis”
Dates: 23–26 March 2026
This workshop focuses on the electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA),
highlighting modern developments and geological applications. New this
year: sessions on Bruker AMICS automated mineralogy, oxidation state
measurements in glasses and minerals, novel EPMA applications in
meteoritics, and advanced software tools for EPMA users.

Meet our lecturers (Vol.2):
-
Colin Macrae (CSIRO Mineral Resources) – Expert in microanalysis,
X-ray diffraction, hyperspectral soft X-ray emission spectrometry, and
cathodoluminescence. Co-developer of xCLent and SXES software, past
President of AMAS.
-
Serguei Matveev (JEOL Germany GmbH) – EPMA and SEM specialist with
extensive experience in instrument operation and maintenance across
multiple international research institutions.
-
Amanda Ostwald (Michigan State University) – PhD in Geoscience;
research on martian meteorites, igneous rocks on Mars, microanalytical
techniques, and thermodynamic modeling; former postdoctoral fellow at the
Smithsonian Institution.
-
Jesse Walters (University of Graz) – Assistant Professor of
Petrochronology; studies geochemical cycling, redox processes,
tectonometamorphic histories, and critical metal deposits using analytical,
chronological, and computational methods.
This workshop offers valuable knowledge for undergraduate and postgraduate
students, PhDs, postdocs, senior scientists, and lab managers, covering
both basics and advanced aspects of EPMA.
Fees:
- Early registration (by 28 Feb 2026): €40 → includes full access to
workshop recordings, presentations, and transcripts
- Late registration (after 28 Feb 2026): €52
