The UNLV Department of Geoscience seeks candidates for a full-time laboratory manager to run the Electron Microanalysis and Imaging Lab (EMiL) and operate two new Tescan scanning electron microscopes and a JEOL JXA-8900 Superprobe electron microprobe. The candidate is expected to provide full-time technical and managerial support for daily operations of the electron microanalysis facility and associated laboratories. The candidate will provide research support to UNLV faculty and student researchers and outside users, and ensure that the laboratory is productive and generates high-quality analytical data. The candidate is also expected to train all users in data acquisition and interpretation, establish standard operating procedures, develop new analytical methods, solicit and oversee work from outside users, and maintain accounts and a self-supporting operating budget. The candidate will be encouraged to mentor students and teach an annual course in Instrumental Techniques.
This position requires a PhD in geoscience or related fields and extensive electron beam instrument experience, and abilities to independently troubleshoot, solve problems, and maintain instruments.
