Minerals Day Webinar

Monday, October 14, 2024 is Minerals Day! To celebrate this year's theme of Minerals and the Visual Arts, MSA is hosting a webinar by artist Darryl Powell. The title of the webinar is Why Mineral Art?:  Illustration, Observation, Education. The webinar will be at 10:30 AM Eastern via Zoom. Here is a description of the webinar's content:

Drawing natural items (like mineral specimens) through a process of careful observation can move an artist from average to more accomplished.  The final illustrations created through careful observation of form, color and texture can result in drawings that are fine illustrations of the objects at hand.  More importantly, even if an individual does not aspire to be an accomplished artist, the process of carefully observing the details of a mineral specimen is an education in and of itself:  What is seen?  Why is it there?  What geologic environment created such color and beauty?  Why are these minerals associated with each other?  It goes without saying that the same principles of careful observation combined with careful illustration (to the best of the artist's ability) is an educational experience.

The link to register for the webinar is below. We hope to see you there!
