I found an unpolished slab of variscite (and crandallite) in our mineralogy teaching collection several weeks ago that definitely caught my eye. It is from the classic "Little Green Monster Mine" locality near Fairfield, Utah. Knowing how rare this stuff is, I polished one side. It looks much nicer now!
This mine (now closed and reclaimed) was almost exclusively mined from 1937-1940 by the famous collectors Edwin Over and Arthur Montgomery. For anyone who might know, can we be reasonably certain this specimen dates from that period? I'm also wondering who might have written the locality info on the back. Any chance it was Over or Montgomery? Unfortunately, the specimen number on the back hasn't been useful to turn up any information on provenance.
Thank you!
