Dear Colleagues,

There is a Postdoc position in Igneous and Aqueous Geochemistry available at the University of Houston. Please share the following info with anyone who may be interested in applying.

Description:

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Houston invites applications for an immediate opening as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the areas of Igneous and Aqueous Geochemistry. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work as part of an energy transition team project that seeks to improve our understanding of natural hydrogen production via water-rock interaction involving ultramafic rocks. The successful candidate is expected to investigate serpentinization processes of ultramafic rocks at low to moderate temperatures and associated hydrogen production using cutting-edge hydrothermal experimental techniques and analytical facilities. The researcher will focus on results from an experimental apparatus designed to simulate interactions between fluids and ultramafic rocks under varying conditions. The successful candidate will examine time-series chemical changes to fluids and rock, molecular hydrogen generation, and reaction kinetics during serpentinization in different environments.

The position is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal for the 3rd year depending on performance review and funding availability.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in geology, geochemistry, or a related field. Prior research experience in hydrothermal experiments, mafic/ultramafic rocks, and analytical instrumentation (GC, ICP-MS, XRD, etc.) is desired, but not all are required.

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Required Attachments by Candidate: Cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, Statement of research interest, Names and contact information of three referees. Applications should be submitted online using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/3u7up8pn

Review of applications will begin on July 21, 2024, but will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries should be addressed to Drs. John Casey (jfcasey@central.uh.edu) and/or Qi Fu (qfu5@central.uh.edu).

The University of Houston is an equal opportunity/affirmative employer. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. All positions at the university are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check.

Sincerely,

Qi
